Doula Experience and Training

Doulas of North America (DONA) and the Utah Doula Association

I am a certified doula with Doulas of North America CD(DONA). During this certification process, I attended several workshops and group meetings, read (and READ) countless books to help prepare me for life as doula, completed my certifying births, accompanied other doulas on births, compiled resource lists, observed and attended classes and the list goes on.

I am a current member of DONA International, and the Utah Doula Association.

My Birth Experiences

I have had two children myself, one Cesarean, (Tyrel) and one VBAC (Anthony).

HypnoBirthing, Hypnobabies, and use of hypnosis in birth

In 2006 I became a HypnoBirthing Childbirth Educator and held that position for a year and a half. When completing my doula certification I discovered that HypnoBirthing Education did not count towards certifying. I then observed a Hypnobabies class, which statistically had better results than HypnoBirthing, I felt that ethically I could no longer continue teaching this method when something more was out there, though I still believe that it is a great method for childbirth.

Births Attended as a Utah Doula

I have been doing doula work in Utah since 2007 and since then have attended several births, all of which have been beautiful experiences.

I have witnessed and been a part of natural births, induced births, cesarean births, VBAC’s, births using hypnosis, teen births, hospital births, home births, births with diabetic mothers, water births and the list goes on. In those rare instances for women who it IS necessary to have a cesarean, I would love to be there to support you. I don’t think these women realize that they do have a say in the operating room and that they can have a beautiful birth and how much a support system can help especially from someone who has had a cesarean. I love attending all kinds of birth, though I do feel that I have a special connection with and am of great value to mothers who are VBAC’s orĀ  who use hypnosis in birth because that’s what brought me here to becoming a doula.
